Smash hits…
* Smash hits genre is mainstream teen pop.
* It was owned by Emap from 1978 – 2007 then Bauer brought the company in 2007.
* The magazine folded in 2008 but the brand name still remains, as they have a website, radio station and TV channel.
* Smash hits puff was ‘Worlds greatest pop magazine’ This was relevant to when it first launched as it lived up to it’s name and teenagers loved it.
* Smash hits were priced at £1.90 per magazine and came out monthly but after the first 3 issues that had massive sales they turned to fortnightly.
* Smash hits house style was pop art colours such as,
Yellows
Pinks
Blues
And Oranges.
* After smash hits had been launched in the 1980’s the magazine had attained ‘phenomenon’ status and helped produce careers for high plying journalists such as heat editor Mark Frith.
However in 1990’s they saw circulation figures drop in spite of the change in format redesigns and change towards celebrity and entertainment icons.

I considered Smash hits as one of my competitors magazines because it has some aspects that my magazine will contain. The pop side of the magazine will be one of the things i will include but will be more sophisicated and not cheesy.
