New magazine masthead and title:
I like this masthead and title because it is straight to the point and is what it is. It makes you feel like your in the know, and only you know the new gossip. I love the catchy line 'if it's hot, it's here' it makes you feel closer to the magazine and again up to date with all the latest gossip. I also like the way it's underlined to make it stand out. The type of writting is like bubble writting and it looks girlie but not to in your face.

Vogue Masthead:
In my own opintion i think vogue masthead is quite boring and plain. However it does make the magazine look classy and sophisticated which is the one thing i like. I do like the fact it chnges colour to match that issue of the magazine. It does stand out from others, and it doesn't try as hard with colours and boldness but it pays off as people do like it. You can tell from the masthead what type of magazine it is from which is good.

A Day In The Life Of...

A Day in the life of my ideal reader,
Zzzzz...
11.30am wakey wakey, it's a saturday, ahhh just best feeling ever. Time to have a quick shower , whilst in the shower day dreaming about my lovely bacon sandwich i'll be having after. Wait.. the showers gone cold! Just as i put all my soapy shampoo on!!! typical. After my horrible cold shower, it's finally time for that sandwich i'd been day dreaming about. Shout out to mum put the bacon on please i'm finished in the shower... (bang) Front door closes. She's off out for the day, looks like i'll be making my bacon sandwhich, Today just isn't my day. Now to get dressed today i'm wearing my leggings, my holister t-shirt and zara cardigan. Something comfy to wear whilst i'm shopping today. Now is the time were i spend hours looking in mirror, what to do with my hair? how to do my make-up? Think today i'll go for the curly look with suttle make-up. As always as friends ring at the door all ready to leave for shopping, and theirs me still running around trying to find Handbag, shoes, phone, keys all that sort. Finally were off westfield. Of course it would be us that misses the train by a minute and has to wait another 15mins, on the other hand more time to sit and gossip. We've arrived at our destintion westfield. time to hit the shops. Hollister, new look, H&M, Lipsy, apple store, bank fashion. All that shopping makes me hungry, off to nandos for lunch, And yes the only resturant with a massive queue, not what i want when i'm starving. Now my tummy is happy again i can do more shopping.
5pm... Finally back on the train home, feels good to sit down again, my arms ache from holding so many bags, but then again i did get lots of lovely things. Also the fact it's saturday and i can do home relax and dont have to get up early tomorrow makes things a little better.
6.30 Back home and the whole family in doing the usual, mum preparing dinner, brother 21 playing stupid xbox, 2 little sisters arguing on what to watch on tv.
It's show and tell time, well showing mum all the thing i brought and a bit of a fashion show on the clothing i brought. To be honest i dont think she is really looking jut nodding and saying 'thats nice' the normal mum phrase when your showing something to her and she i buy doing something else.
7pm.. The buzzer going off for dinner, girls running to get head of the dinner table and me slowly wondering downstaris whilst texting at the same time. Meatballs and pasta for dinner, YUMMY. 'Stop texting at the dinner table, you only saw those girls half an hour ago, you cant have anything to talk about.' Mum nagging at me again. She just doen't understand what it's like these days a lot goe on in the gossip world. After dinner i like to do the usual, go to my room listen to music and go on my laptop. check whats happening on facebook, check the emails, download music. 9pm Time for bath and listen to a bit of relaxing music at the same time. Ahhh this is the life. After bath i like to put my all in one on and snuggle up and watch a film with a bag of giant chocolate buttons, today i'm watching the holiday, my favourite film ever.
Zzzzzz... fallen asleep!!!

Pre-lim Task

(Girls issue)

This is my pre-lim task of a school magazine. I chose my audiance as sixth formers as i can relate to it. The magazine would come out monthly but one month would be a boys issue and next month would be girls issue.

The girls issues would contain information about trips and key dates for the sixth formers for that month. It would also include gossip about how the prom plans are shaping up, Girls sports.

However in the boys issue it will include information on trips, key dates for the sixth form boys. I will also include boys sports clubs, fixtures and previous match results.

Mood board of my typical reader of my magazine

My mood board i have created is all the things that my typical reader of my magazine would like. It gives you a background on what interests and hobbies that my reader enjoys. As you can tell my reader is females ages between 13-18.

Fact File on Vogue

Vogue in 1917! Vogue 2008!

Vogue magazine started in the united states of America in 1892.
Vogue magazine was brought out as a weekly publication by Arthur Baldwin in 1892. After he died in 1909 Conde Nast took over the magazine and it slowly began growing. Conde Nast’s first change for the magazine was to change it to a bi-weekly instead of a weekly magazine. During 1910 Conde Nast went overseas with the magazine, first went to Britain and it was a success. Next they went to Spain which became a failure. Lastly went to France which was a massive success.
In 1973 Vogue became a monthly publication because of the editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella. The magazine went under editorial and stylistic changes, this was to respond to the changes in the life styles of their target market.
Vogue is still going and is now being published in 18 different countries:
* America
* Australia
* Brazil
* China
* France
* Germany
* Greece
* India
* Italy
* Japan
* Korea
* Latin America/Mexico
* Portugal
* Russia
* Spain

Eva Hughes (Mexico & Latin America)
Yolanda Sacristán (Spain)
Paula Mateus (Portugal)

I Have chosen vogue as a competitor magazine for the simple reason that I like the sophistication of the magazine and how it looks glossy and classy. I also like the house style used in vogue magazine as it’s simple but stands out and is affected.

Fact file on potential competitors.

Pictue of left it Smash hits in 2006, and on right is Smash hits in 1981

Smash hits…

* Smash hits genre is mainstream teen pop.
* It was owned by Emap from 1978 – 2007 then Bauer brought the company in 2007.
* The magazine folded in 2008 but the brand name still remains, as they have a website, radio station and TV channel.
* Smash hits puff was ‘Worlds greatest pop magazine’ This was relevant to when it first launched as it lived up to it’s name and teenagers loved it.
* Smash hits were priced at £1.90 per magazine and came out monthly but after the first 3 issues that had massive sales they turned to fortnightly.
* Smash hits house style was pop art colours such as,
Yellows
Pinks
Blues
And Oranges.
* After smash hits had been launched in the 1980’s the magazine had attained ‘phenomenon’ status and helped produce careers for high plying journalists such as heat editor Mark Frith.
However in 1990’s they saw circulation figures drop in spite of the change in format redesigns and change towards celebrity and entertainment icons.

I considered Smash hits as one of my competitors magazines because it has some aspects that my magazine will contain. The pop side of the magazine will be one of the things i will include but will be more sophisicated and not cheesy.
